Some of the Most Iconic Convertibles

There's few things that come close do driving down the road on a warm summer day with the top down. And with summer starting to come to an end, it would only be right to have a write up about some of the most honorable convertibles. These cars have won a special place in a lot of peoples hearts over the years by letting the roof down to let them enjoy the driving experience that much more.

Late 50’s Eldorado
To start the list off, lets talk about the late 50’s Cadillac Eldorado. This big body, two door, luxury car went to the very tip top with the styling. It is mainly recognized for the iconic two big rear fins with bullet style taillights. At the time, most cars had the basics. The Eldorado on the other hand came with plenty of chrome, a jeweled front grill, power locks, power seats and even air suspension.

Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse
Couldn’t leave this beast out. The Bugatti Vitesse is mostly known for its power, oh and its hefty price tag of $2.5 million. This convertible packs a whopping W-16 8.0L powered by 4 turbos putting out 1200 horsepower! The Vitesse is the fastest convertible in the world topping out at 254 miles per hours and pushes 0-60 in 2.6 seconds.

Corvette Stingray
Noted for both its design and performance, the Stingray left a lasting impression in the car culture. Named as one of the most beautiful cars ever created, the Stingray could also deliver up to 425 horsepower from an American V8. With a quarter mile time of low 14 seconds and 0-60 in 5.7 seconds this Corvette was definitely one of a kind for its time until the new 2014 Stingray arrived earlier this year.

Jeep Wrangler
The Jeep Wrangler was quickly picked up and noticed as one of the kings amongst the off road vehicles. It’s design and 4x4 capabilities make it a go to choice for enthusiasts. Not only do its rugged looks separate it from the rest, the pure driving experience of being able to take the Wrangler comfortably from the streets to off road has helped this compact SUV gain a large fan base.

Mazda Miata MX-5
Of course the Mazda Miata has to make the list. The Miata is the most sold roadster in the world and there’s an obviously good reason for that.  Pure driving joy with perfect balance has made the Miata enjoyable for anyone from racing enthusiasts to college girls. Although it may be underpowered, this probably the most fun car you can get for the money. Don’t believe it? Go drive one.

Shelby Cobra
And of course the list couldn’t be complete if the Legendary Shelby Cobra wasn’t on it. This convertible roadster was born in 1962 and came equipped with a big Ford V8 in a very small and lightweight body. The Cobra had mixed ratings in the racing world where its main competitor was the Corvette, which it eventually beat in various races.  In the five years of production, there has only been just over 1000 of these created which makes this a very popular collectors car.
